Thursday we had Open House at Jackson's school. It is a highly anticipated event at our house, and we were both so excited to go. The night (day really) had some bumps in the road which I definitely am not up to typing about now that had nothing to do with Open House, but I was worried they might ruin our time and memories. Thank goodness not!
Jackson walked right on in like he owns the school :) just like last year. At first he was a bit timid when he saw how many people were roaming the hallways. Then, he saw the director, Mrs. Natalie, though and that was all it took to bring him out of his shell! I had found out at the end of last year that each morning after carpool dropoff he'd stopped by Mrs. Natalie's office on the way to his room to greet her and tell her good morning! She told me how much he brightened her day! She hugged him and directed us to the Junior Kindergarten room.
Once inside, Jackson quickly got comfortable and headed right over to the "table toys."
It was great meeting his new friends. There are alot more boys this year, and they all seemed to get along very well together and hit it off.
Jackson got his snack bag and water bottle (SO glad they have bottles this year so I won't worry he will get dehydrated!) Inside he found a fruit roll up, but we saved that for daddy! (Jackson doesn't like them.:))

Then, we got to meet Chef George! Jr K has their very own classroom chef who teaches the kids how to cool. Really! Jackson is very excited about that and has talked about Chef George all weekend. He asked Chef George if they can cook "pantycakes." haha! (aka pancakes) Chef George had made us cookies. Jackson did ask if he could have one but only as he was taking the first bite already. :) Thank goodness for super teacher Mrs. Ronnie informing me about the cookies in advance so I could plan the whole day's meals around them. I had only intended for him to eat one, but he asked for a second and I let my guard down thinking I can always give him extra insulin at dinner. So, he chomped down on them. God is great, and Jackson's sugar was fine two hours later, and he didn't need any extra insulin.

The theme for his room this year is Fire Station Number 1. It was really neat! There's actually the front end of a firetruck in the hallway!

Jackson thought it was very neat they had a globe! He wanted me to show him our house on it!

He warmed right up to Mrs. Ronnie, his teacher and started talking her ear off right away!

But, his favorite find of the night was these two items.. a bell (which I am glad stays AT school!) and an adding machine. He and his new friend (well, the teacher thought they were old friends they hit it off so well), Bryce, played "store" for forever! I had to tell him the school was closing down for the night! Thanks to Mrs. Ronnie for helping me get him out of there by escorting him down to see his old teachers for a quick hello. (Tears came to my eyes when I saw them..even though I just saw them like last week! I am so going to miss them! But, I am excited about what this new year has in store for us!)

I cannot believe a year from now, this little man will be starting elementary school. It just doesn't seem possible!

We ended the night with Jackson rolling down his favorite hill...I love these pics of him. They just really capture his personality! (Yes, even I let my OCD down and let him roll in fresh cut grass in nice clothes.:))

I am glad it's time to go back to school. Routine is nice, and Preston needs some one on one after all the latest events. Plus, he is really ready to go back to baby gym. :) That starts back Friday. I'll be sure to post about that.
I have lots of mixed up memories and feelings about this summer. We had probably the best vacation we've ever had as a family and remember how I started the summer out blogging? Week one, week two, etc? We stayed so busy, and some of my best memories since the kids have been born were made. Then, came the bump in the road with the whole diabetes thing. I still look back and it feels surreal. I know I never posted part two yet. I will. Sorry. It's coming. It just takes a lot for me to sit down and pour all that out.
All I know is I am thankful. Thankful for early diagnoses, thankful for God's plan for Jackson including him being able to start school healthy for the most part, thankful for innovative insulin and devices to help us in his care, thankful for my baby Preston being born flexible for the most part and "go with the flow," thankful for God choosing the best man in the world to stand beside me during all this, thankful for a wonderful school with Christian staff who have Jackson's best interest at heart as I place his life in their hands tomorrow morning.
Thankful...but a little anxious. Yes. Sure. Would I be a good mom if I wasn't?

School looks like an absolute blast! Jackson's going to have a great year! Wonder if I can go and have a chef in my classroom to teach me how to cook...
