My Big Little Boy

Today Jackson had his 6 month cleaning visit at the dentist. Last time he went 6 months ago, if you remember he got back there and went nuts on them! He goes to Dentistry for Children (which I HIGHLY recommend). They really encourage independence in them by letting them go back alone. It is set up really neat. They get to watch cartoons with other kids while they do their cleaning. They also leave with prizes and goodies and get their pictures made. So, last time he missed out on all that fun because it being his first time he got frightened. But, this time it was like I took a different child with me! He was a little hesitant to go back mostly because there is an indoor playhouse in the waiting room which he wanted to keep playing on. But, once I assured him he could return to play once they were done, he headed on back.

I kept waiting for them to come and get me like before. Everytime the assistant came out to get another patient, I looked up expecting her to tell me he was asking for me. But, that never happened. Much to my amazement, dismay, pride, and heartbreak, it appeared he could handle it all on his own. :(

Several minutes later he reappeared all by himself to tell me he was all done "getting his teeth painted." He then showed me the finished product by giving me a big "cheese" grin and went right over to the playhouse.

It was such a moving moment for me. I had so many emotions. Sadness and pride were at the top of the list. It is great to see them grow up and see that you have helped them build their confidence. But, then again I see how quickly their time of needing their mommy is passing so fast. Yes, I know they will always need me, but not the same way as before. I only hope he cherishes all the times he did really need me and I was there in the back of his mind just like I do.
